in the big room

Five years in the game is a monumental achievement in Liverpool and we wanted to celebrate in style with the world’s finest champagne party djs David and Stephen Dewaele. Since their last appearance at Evol three years back the brothers Dewaele have seemingly taken over the world with their dj sets and all action live sets as Soulwax. The highlight of every major festival and dance event, these guys are at the peak of their powers and continue to set the standards when it comes to the dance hall remix. Check their new DVD ‘Part Of The Weekend Never Dies’ to see how they do. Accept no substitutes.

LATE OF THE PIER

Evols band of the year. Following the singles the album ‘Fantasy Black Channel’ dropped and kind of turned things upside down on the scene. Here was a group with more than one new idea, often several new ideas per song with a sound that both references the past and points to the future. Erol Alkan stepped to the plate to fine tune things and delivered a record that works for all walks and all clubs. We’re delighted to have them back, they make the party something of a Buck Rogers Galactic Ball even in pyjamas and all.

INDICA RITUAL
www. myspace. com/indicaritual
We’re gonna put this out there just so you know, we think Indica Ritual are the best band to have come outta Liverpool in a long, long while. Collective genius, amalgamation of styles and the shit on stage, we love them. These muthafuckers bounce and bring new meaning to the phrase disco pogo. It’s about time someone had the balls to sign them.

SCREAMING LIGHTS
www. myspace. com/screaminglights
When these four lads supported The Aliens earlier in the year we witnessed something special from a cat amongst the pigeons Liverpool band. They’ve since cut a deal with The Kooks management and have toured with The Spinto Band. Turn on the bright lights.

Punks Jump Up… To Get Beat Down as Brand Nubian once declared but not this Swedish duo who now reside in our great capital. They’re Kitsune Records recording artistes specializing in the 80’s new wave electro remix, beat downs have been handed out to the likes of Digitalism, The Gossip, Simian Mobile Disco and Lykke Li to name but a few. They be hauling ass on the dj set.

AUTOKRATZ

Have just released their debut mini album ‘Down & Out In Paris & London’ to dancefloor acclaim and have been announced as Underworld’s tour support. Mighty achievements so soon indeed for these young electro pioneers from London. Going to go Nuclear and blow the whole joint up. Watch them do it.

HEARTSREVOLUTION (New York City, USA)
www. myspace. com/heartsrevolution
www. heartsrevolution. com
There’s a whole load of great stuff coming out of the Big Apple at the moment, a fusion of scenes, styles and drugs, from MGMT to Gang Gang Dance everything’s getting psychedelic and out there. Then steps in Heartsrevolution, an visionary electro group that live to dance and throw themselves about. New York artist Kate Moross also features in the band making them the coolest thing since Ladytron.

BENI
www. myspace. com/listentobeni
From his palacial surroundings in Ghent this young prince is something of a secret weapon in the Kitsune armoury. Part of the Soulwax brotherhood he follows in a fine tradition on the ones and twos. Put your hands together and give Beni a warm welcome for his first night in Liverpool. Bless his cotton socks.

SOFT TOY EMERGENCY
www. myspace. com/softtoyemergency
Liverpool’s own girl fronted indie dance hybrid have been making huge waves of their own recently, Skins tours, London shows, Justice covers and a debut single out in February with a tour to follow, they’ve been busy little bees. Another one to watch and Evol favourites, they smashed it with Hadouken last time out and will do again, don’t sweat the technique. Believe.
