Detroit – May 28, 2010 – Once again, it’s on. The voting for America’s Best DJ begins Memorial Day Weekend. The three-month-long promotion run by DJ Times magazine asks the eternal question: “Who’s America’s Best DJ?” So at 5:30 PM on Friday, May 28, fans start giving their answers—by casting their votes for their favorite DJ at www.americasbestdj.net. Voting also gives fans the chance to win awesome prizes. The voting will be supported by a Summer Tour that’s presented by Pioneer DJ and DJ Times. Sponsors for the tour include Novation, Beatport, The Palms Las Vegas Hotel & Casino and N9NE Group.

Running in tandem with the competition, the 20-event America’s Best DJ Summer Tour is all set to kick off May 29-31 at Movement: Detroit’s Electronic Music Festival. The Memorial Day weekend event at Hart Plaza, which drew over 80,000 fans in 2009, will offer a massive platform for the launch of the 5th annual tour. At Movement and other tour events—like Baltimore’s Starscape Festival on June 5—DJ Times will maintain a dedicated exhibit booth and take paper-ballot votes from fans supporting their favorite U.S.-based DJs. Voting fans will earn the opportunity to win gear from Pioneer DJ and Novation, plus free music downloads from Beatport. One lucky voter plus a guest will win a grand prize trip for two to Las Vegas that includes roundtrip airfare, accommodations at The Palms, and VIP treatment at the America’s Best DJ closing party in Rain Nighclub.

Both the online vote and tour will run from Memorial Day to Labor Day, and the America’s Best DJ award show/closing party will take place on October 2 at The Palms Casino Resort in Las Vegas. (Incidentally, Z-Trip—the 2009 America’s Best DJ winner—maintains his “Z-Trip Revolution” residency at the Rain nightclub in The Palms, where he took over the decks after the passing of DJ AM.)

Out of the 100 U.S.-based jocks nominated for the America’s Best DJ title, seven will perform at Movement. They include A-Trak, Claude VonStroke, Derrick Carter, Josh Wink, and The Martinez Bros.—plus current Detroit-area DJs Stacey Pullen and Theo Parrish. Also, seven nominees will perform at Starscape. They include Wolfgang Gartner, DJ Craze, Dieselboy, DJ Dan, Reid Speed, Charles Feelgood and The Trouble & Bass Crew. At the 2009 Movement festival, eventual winner Z-Trip rocked the Motown crowd to the point that existing supporters and many new converts came streaming over to the DJ Times booth to cast their paper ballots for him. That week’s voting bump (in-person and online) vaulted Z-Trip into the ABDJ lead. Three months later, he was at Ghost Bar at The Palms in Vegas being presented with a gold-plated Pioneer DJM-800 by Paul Oakenfold and Pioneer staff.
