The Freedom Dance Party is the longest running weekly Friday night dance party in NYC history. Recently the winner of Papermag’s highly coveted award for “Best Party of 2010 Peoples Choice” and runner up in URB Magazine’s “Best Party of 2010″ nationwide, Freedom was created in 2003 by Herbert Holler, DJ Cosi and Marc Smooth. Their mission was to bring music back to the focal point of the party experience and to provide a weekly home for people from all walks of life to dance and be free, regardless of who they know, what they wear or how much money they make. Playing an incredibly tight of mix of danceable, soulful hits from the 60s through today, including hip-hop, house, disco, R&B classics, rock, reggae, 80s, 90s, salsa, merengue, electronica, Afrobeat and more, the Freedom Dance Party continues to fill its dance floor each week with positive, fun, beautiful people from all over the globe looking to have an unforgettable, true NYC party experience, one they’ve shared with other cities across the country and world.
In the Summer of 2011, Freedom flew Midwest to begin a new residency. Chicago is now officially its second home, and each month, Freedom brings hundreds of discerning party goers down to its dance floor (now at Beauty Bar, 1444 West Chicago Ave), spreading love to new listeners, gaining new followers, all the while growing the Freedom family. With the help of local nightlife pros DJ Kwest_on and Vasco Bridges, Freedom Chicago has quickly become the #1 destination for DJ-driven dance parties.
In the Summer of 2013, the Freedom Party NYC celebrated its 10-year anniversary with a huge dance party at Summerstage in Central Park, one of the premier live-music venues in the world. Featuring a live performance by Cameo, one of the highest grossing funk bands of all time, the event brought 3,300+ people on a Tuesday (in the rain), and completed its excitement with a two-hour dance party.
In addition, the Freedom Party NYC has been at the helm of some of the most sought-after events in town, including the Brooklyn Botanic Garden Summer Gala, First Saturdays at the Brooklyn Museum, Celebrate Brooklyn at Brooklyn Bridge Park, Midsummer Night Swing’s Silent Disco at Lincoln Center, and many more. Thousands of people are in attendance at these events. Thousands of people dancing to the sounds of FREEDOM!
